Heat Exchanger Tube Plugging & Pressure Testing
At its Hatfield, Pennsylvania facility, Curtiss-Wright designs and manufactures specialized maintenance and repair solutions for shell-and-tube and air-cooled heat exchangers, as well as advanced test and isolation plugs for piping, tubing, pressure vessels and open-end pipe applications. The Pop-A-Plug® Tube Plugging System repairs heat exchangers at operating pressures up to 7,000 PsiG (483 BarG); the GripTight® Test & Isolation Plug line tests and isolates piping systems at pressures up to 15,000 PsiG (1,034 BarG). Every product is manufactured in an ISO 9001:2015 registered facility.

Pop-A-Plug® P2
The weld-free tube repair
High-pressure mechanical tube plug.
- Locate the leak: A cracked tube lets shell-side fluid escape into the channel, so that tube has to come out of service.
- Insert the plug: With the bore brushed clean, the P2 slides into the tube end on its pull rod. At this point it is still a slip fit.
- Pull the pin: The install ram draws the tapered pin into the serrated ring, swaging the ring out against the tube wall.
- Sealed, no welding: At a preset force the pull rod breaks away. The plug holds a helium leak-tight seal rated to 7,000 PsiG (483 BarG).
